NewzBits ("we", "us", or "our") operates the website newzbits.com (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information. By using NewzBits you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the Service. NewzBits, operated by its owner, is the controller for personal data processed through the Service. For privacy questions or requests, contact [email protected].
We collect information in two ways. First, if you subscribe to our newsletter you provide your email address voluntarily; we store only that email address and nothing else. Second, our servers automatically record standard access logs β including IP address, browser type, pages visited, and timestamps β which are retained on a rolling 90-day basis and then deleted. We do not collect your name, physical address, phone number, or payment details. All preference data (theme, region, language, bookmarks, recently-viewed articles, and reading streak) is stored exclusively in your browser's localStorage on your own device and is never transmitted to our servers.
We use your email address solely to send the newsletter you subscribed to on the basis of your consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)). We use website access logs on the basis of our legitimate interests (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)) to detect abuse, maintain security, and troubleshoot service issues. We do not currently use analytics or advertising tracking; if we enable analytics or advertising in the future, we will rely on your consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)) before any such processing begins. We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties. We do not use your data for automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects.
We use browser localStorage (not cookies) to save your preferences β theme, selected region, language, bookmarked articles, recently-viewed articles, and reading streak. This data never leaves your device. We do not currently use analytics or advertising cookies or similar tracking technologies. Should we introduce non-essential analytics or advertising in the future, we will request your explicit consent before setting them. You can also manage or block cookies through your browser settings at any time.
NewzBits may display contextual advertising placements to support the Service, but we do not currently use any analytics or advertising tracking, and we do not share personally identifiable information with advertisers. Should we enable analytics or advertising technologies in the future, we will obtain your explicit consent beforehand and update this Privacy Policy accordingly.
We integrate AI summarisation services including OpenRouter, Ollama, and Grok, which receive article text to generate summaries but do not receive any personally identifiable information, and an email delivery provider used solely to send newsletters. We do not currently have Google Analytics, AdSense, or other advertising or analytics trackers active. If we enable such services in the future, we will request your explicit consent beforehand. Each third party has its own privacy policy governing any data it receives. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those services.
We retain your email address for as long as you remain subscribed to the newsletter. Server access logs are automatically deleted on a 90-day rolling basis. We implement industry-standard security measures β including HTTPS encryption in transit and access controls β to protect your information. No method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security but will notify you of any breach as required by law.
Depending on your jurisdiction you may have rights including access to your personal data, correction of inaccurate data, deletion of your data, data portability, and the right to object to certain processing (GDPR, for residents of the EU/EEA/UK); and the right to know what data we hold, to delete it, and to opt out of its sale (CCPA, for California residents). We do not sell personal information. The only personal data we currently hold server-side about readers is newsletter email addresses; we do not store passwords, and we do not keep browsing history on our servers. To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected]. We will respond within 30 days.
The Service is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, please contact us immediately and we will delete that information promptly.
NewzBits is operated from servers that may be located outside your country of residence. By using the Service you consent to the transfer of your information to those servers. For users in the EU, EEA, or UK, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses to ensure your data receives an adequate level of protection.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of the page. Continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
