Janet Mills, la gouverneure du Maine, a abandonné jeudi sa candidature au Sénat des États-Unis à quelques semaines seulement de la primaire démocrate, dans une course qui reflétait un débat interne au parti sur la manière de remporter l'un des sièges de sénateur les plus disputés de cette année.
« Bien que j'aie la détermination et la passion, l'engagement et l'expérience, et par-dessus tout — la combativité — pour continuer, je n'ai tout simplement pas la seule chose que les campagnes politiques exigent malheureusement aujourd'hui : les ressources financières », a déclaré Mills dans un communiqué.
« C'est pourquoi j'ai pris aujourd'hui la décision incroyablement difficile de suspendre ma campagne pour le Sénat des États-Unis. »
